Bringing disciplines and stakeholders together for parental leave research

Share

From the outset, a key objective of Sustainability@Leave was to build a broad and interdisciplinary network around paid parental leave and social sustainability. The Action therefore actively identified and invited researchers from different academic disciplines, countries and research traditions, while at the same time reaching beyond academia to engage organisations involved in policy development, data collection, advocacy and practice.

The resulting academic network brings together researchers from universities and research institutions across Europe and beyond, participating in the Action’s five Working Groups and contributing different disciplinary expertise to its activities and outputs.

Alongside the academic network, Sustainability@Leave has systematically engaged policymakers, international organisations, European institutions and agencies, statistical and research infrastructures, civil-society organisations and other practitioners. These stakeholders have contributed to workshops, conferences, policy discussions and other Action activities, helping to connect scientific research with policy and practice. The dedicated stakeholder page distinguishes organisations directly engaged in Action activities, organisations reached through dissemination and policy dialogue, and collaborating networks and research infrastructures.

By building these two interconnected communities – an interdisciplinary academic network and a broad stakeholder network – Sustainability@Leave created a platform for sustained exchange across disciplines and between research, policy and practice, strengthening both the scientific quality and societal relevance of parental leave research.
