Methodological Challenges in Paid Parental Leave Research & Policy

In May 2025, WG5 and LISER hosted leading international experts from academia, government, and practitioner institutions for a two-day workshop on Methodological Challenges in Paid Parental Leave Research and Policy. Together, we explored the state of parental leave data, identified persistent gaps, and discussed how to advance research and policy evaluation in this crucial field.

The event sparked lively debate and collaboration on issues ranging from terminology and administrative data to survey design and policy indicators. These conversations highlighted not only the progress made so far but also the work still needed to ensure robust, comparable data for assessing parental leave outcomes across Europe and beyond.

We are delighted to share the Post-Workshop Report, which distills the key insights, lessons, and next steps that emerged from this unique gathering.
